Whether it's the way to the lecture, to the lab, to the workshop or to the office: at Ruhr University we are increasingly using alternative, sustainable means of transport to keep the environmental impact as low as possible.
Since 2011, Ruhr University Bochum has been working on a mobility strategy to relieve the campus of cars and improve the accessibility of the campus and the branch offices.

AStA bicycle self-help workshop
The AStA bicycle self-help workshop offers the opportunity to repair your own bicycle under the supervision of an experienced mechanic. All (special) tools can be accessed; advice and assistance are also part of the overall concept. Use is free of charge for students. All other users are asked to make a small donation. The workshop is centrally located on campus near the university library in the so-called "glass box".

Bike repair stations
The most necessary repairs can be done independently at one of the two bicycle repair stations located on campus. According to the campus map for bicyclists, these are located in front of the HGB (G-North Street) and HNC (N-North Street) buildings. The stations are equipped with the following tools: screwdriver, angle wrench set, Torx wrench, open-end wrench, rolling fork wrench, pliers, tire levers and air pump.

E-bikes for employees
For business trips, RUB employees can borrow bikes free of charge with or without a transport box.

Bike boxes
Ruhr University has installed eight lockable bike boxes spread across campus to protect bicycles from theft, wind and weather.

Discounts at bike shops
Students and employees of the Ruhr-Universität have the opportunity to purchase bicycles at discounted prices from various bicycle shops or to take advantage of services.

Bike rental stations
You can rent a Metropolrad at various locations on the university campus and at many other stations in Bochum.
In the seminar "Interdisciplinary Research with Environmental Data", a team of four students from the departments of Applied Computer Science and Social Science at the Ruhr University Bochum worked on how the situation for cyclists on campus and in the vicinity of the Ruhr University can be optimized. The result is a data story.

Student ticket
RUB students not only have the Ruhr region at their feet: In addition to the ticket for the Rhine-Ruhr transport network, the semester fee also includes the NRW ticket.

Employees of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum can use the Jobticket to be mobile both on their way to work and in their free time - and also benefit from the 10-percent wholesale ticket discount that the Ruhr-Universität has agreed with the transport company Bogestra.
